About us

Over ons

History

In 1970, Jan and Fien Gijsbers laid the foundation of our horticultural company, initially focusing on vegetable cultivation. Over the years, we expanded our crops to include sprouts, gherkins, leeks, chicory, and strawberries, adapting to evolving market conditions. Around 1980, we planted our first asparagus, which has since become a significant product for us. In 1987, we ventured into floriculture, cultivating various floral products, with hydrangeas emerging as our flagship crop. This diverse range of crops enables us to maintain year-round operations. We have a dedicated team of permanent employees, and during the spring and summer seasons, we also employ dozens of temporary workers to support our operations.

Since 2010, Bert and Marielle Rutten-Gijsbers have taken over the reins of the family business, ensuring its continued success and growth.

Vision

We supply sustainable and consumer-demanded products that are priced fairly, allowing us to operate independently from subsidies and without relying on dominant chain stores in the market. Our commitment to supplying quality goods is unwavering, and we take satisfaction in meeting the needs of our valued customers.

We provide valuable employment opportunities to the community of Valkenswaard, offering a diverse and inclusive workplace for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. From teenagers gaining their first work experience to newcomers, disabled individuals, returning women, and capable seniors, we embrace a wide range of talents. Our collaborative environment involves engaging in various cultivation practices and performing essential manual tasks. With a multitude of crops to tend to, there is always room for growth and exploration at our company.

We hold soil in high regard as a precious piece of cultural heritage. Going beyond plant care, we prioritize the quality and vitality of the soil itself. With mindful practices, we choose manual methods like using shovels and scythes to maintain ditches, promoting a thriving ecosystem that supports not only our crops but also the diverse range of fascinating creatures, including frogs and salamanders.
